Michelle Obama Ready to Take Over for Biden?

by | Feb 27, 2024 | Opinion

In a hilariously unsurprising turn of events, almost half of the Democrats have finally realized that having President Biden as their poster boy for the 2024 election might not be the winning ticket they’re dreaming of. A recent poll, conducted by the ever-reliable Rasmussen Reports, has revealed that a whopping 48% of Democratic voters are keen on the idea of giving old Joe the boot and finding a new face to lead them to what they hope will be victory.

But here’s the kicker: despite this growing disenchantment, only a measly 33% of these dreamers think a change at the top is actually going to happen.

Talk about wishful thinking!

Now, when it comes to picking a replacement, the Democrats seem to be as indecisive as ever. The poll shows a scattergun of preferences, with no clear consensus. Leading this pack of “maybes” is none other than former first lady Michelle Obama, with 20% support. It’s like they think the White House is some sort of family heirloom to be passed around. Not that it’s stopped other presidential dynasties from occurring over the years.

Close on her heels is Vice President Kamala Harris, with 15% backing her potential elevation. Then, in a nostalgic throwback, 12% are pining for Hillary Clinton to have another shot. Because, sure, let’s relive 2016 all over again.

California’s very own Governor Gavin Newsom, with his so-called “shadow campaign”, isn’t too far behind, garnering 11% support. And let’s not forget Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the youngest of the lot, who’s the top pick for 9% of these optimistic voters.

Adding to this comedy of uncertainties, a significant 27% of Democrats went with “none of the above”. Because why settle for mediocrity when you can have outright dissatisfaction?

In a twist that’s as ironic as it is amusing, Senator Ted Cruz suggested that Michelle Obama could be “parachuted in” at the Democratic National Convention. And where’s this convention, you ask? In Chicago, Obama’s hometown. Subtle, aren’t they?

Meanwhile, Biden, who’s already the oldest president in US history, seems blissfully unaware of these murmurs within his own party. He’s trailing behind former President Donald Trump in key battleground states, but there’s no sign of him stepping aside. If he does stick around for a second term, he’d be 86 by the time he’s done. And let’s not forget the little matter of his fading cognitive capabilities, as pointed out in Robert Hur’s report on the president’s classified documents scandal.

The Democrats, in their infinite wisdom, seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place, or in this case, an aging president and a lineup of contenders that’s more like a roll call from a family reunion or a blast from the past. Ah, “democracy” – you’ve got to love it!
