NFL’s Aaron Rodgers Admits Shock of Robert F. Kennedy Offering Him Vice President Slot

New York Jets superstar Aaron Rodgers had the opportunity to venture into politics as the running mate to independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but ultimately the parties went in different directions.

Rodgers admitted his surprise at Kennedy’s offer in a recent interview with Tucker Carlson.

“Are you serious? I’m a [expletive] football player,” the four-time MVP said. “But I love this country, and I’d love to be a part of bringing it back to what she used to be.”

Kennedy announced attorney Nicole Shanahan as his vice president, but the Jets QB remains in his corner. Rodgers and Kennedy have similar views on the COVID-19 vaccine and never shy away from sharing their bold opinions. The latest example is the star seemingly believing in a President Joe Biden double-body conspiracy theory.

“The country’s in a bad place, and it’s not going to get better with Weekend at Bernie’s [Biden], who can barely put a sentence together, if that’s even him,” Rodgers said.

Victory is not in Kennedy’s favor, but it’s yet to be seen whether his votes will have a greater impact on Donald Trump (Republican) or Biden (Democrat). A poll conducted by NBC News in late April showed that it would hurt former president Trump more. He led Biden by two percentage points in a head-to-head matchup, but once expanded to five candidates Biden led the way (39% to Trump’s 37%).

“Oh yeah, I thought about it,” Rodgers shared when Carlson asked about his interest in the position. “I definitely thought about it because I love Bobby, and I just wanted to hear what he had to say about it.”

Rodgers spent the majority of the 2023–24 NFL season rehabbing from an Achilles injury, which was sustained in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. He and the Jets are gearing up to compete for a Super Bowl next season, adding players such as Olu Fashanu, Mike Williams, and Tyron Smith.

While it’s clear Rodgers is focused on winning his second championship, a life in politics post-retirement is not out of the equation.
