Senator Rand Paul Exposes Government Knowledge of COVID-19: ‘Shame on all the Federal Employees Who Covered up These Facts’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Rand Paul has brought to light a concerning discovery through his investigation as per a new op-ed at Fox News: government officials across 15 federal agencies were aware as early as 2018 of the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s plans to engineer a coronavirus akin to COVID-19. Despite the potential risks associated with such research, dubbed the DEFUSE project, this critical information was withheld from the public.

The DEFUSE project, spearheaded by Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance in collaboration with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, aimed to enhance a coronavirus with a furin cleavage site, mirroring the structure of COVID-19. This revelation, made public through documents obtained under pressure by the administration, indicates a concerning level of foresight into the pandemic’s origins and the potential for human-made virus adaptation for human transmission.

Among the agencies briefed was Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which was actively involved in the initial pitch for the DEFUSE project. Yet, even with the emergence of COVID-19 and its striking resemblance to the proposed virus, none of the informed agencies or individuals, including notable scientists like Ralph Baric, Ian Lipkin, and agencies’ heads, came forward with warnings or disclosures about the research’s nature and implications.

The concealment of the DEFUSE proposal, especially as the global community grappled with the pandemic’s fallout, has sparked outrage. Senator Paul criticizes the lack of transparency and accountability, particularly from figures and institutions that had prior knowledge of the Wuhan Institute’s ambitions. He advocates for stricter oversight on gain-of-function research to prevent similar future oversights.

The whistleblower, Lt. Col. Joseph Murphy, is commended by Senator Paul for his courage in revealing the existence of the DEFUSE project, shedding light on a critical piece of the puzzle in understanding COVID-19’s origins. As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, calls for transparency, accountability, and reform in handling sensitive biological research are louder than ever.
